Andrew’s first real break in photography on a professional level, came when he was asked to produce a series of rowing images for a London based drinks supplier. His brief … to capture a series of images on rowers and rowing for exhibition….something that offered the viewer an idea of the sport, but didn’t give too much away. “Thankfully, my client gave me free reign to come up with something different, explains Andrew. Rather than simply record the activity, I wanted to capture the movement, the light; the physical activity; the emotion and an element of mystery. The pictures were a huge success.
As a rower himself, this commission provided the catalyst and turning point for Andrew to pursue photography on a more professional level. In recent years, he has exhibited with Wills Art Warehouse and numerous Artists’ Open House events. His recent work includes abstract studies of rowers both on and off the water and graphical interpretations of local bridges and landmarks.
